More big-budget Hamlets and Macbeths have been made than you can shake a stick at. ![]() It’s a different story with the major plays. ![]() But they preserved some fine performances, and when it comes to rarely acted plays like Troilus and Cressida, the BBC films are the only productions you’re ever likely to see. These productions don’t look great by today’s standards. Back in the late ’70s and early ’80s, the BBC made TV films of every extant Shakespeare play. If you’re prepared to invest in some DVDs, your options multiply. ![]()
